Brown & Brown, Inc. was founded in Daytona Beach, Florida in 1939 by cousins, J. Adrian Brown & Charles Covington Owen. In 1959, Adrian’s son, Hyatt, took leadership of the family business. Under his direction, the Brown & Brown vision of a lean and profit-oriented organization came into focus.
In 1997, Brown & Brown became publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: BRO). Since 2009, the company has continued to thrive under the leadership of J. Powell Brown, who became the third generation of the family to guide the company.

Our History in Santa Barbara
Our roots began with the Montgomery Insurance Agency, established in 1935. In 1989, Montgomery changed its name to MFC&V Insurance Services and was one of the largest independent insurance agencies on the central coast when they were acquired by Brown & Brown in 2003.
In February of the following year, the agency added Whilt, Fatch & Perry to the team and then in 2005, Manchester Insurance and Alliance Insurance came on board. Today, the Santa Barbara office has over 53 professionals handling accounts of all sizes in all industries.
As one of Brown & Brown’s largest Western United States operations, this office provides a full range of brokerage and consulting services, including commercial, personal, and employee benefits.
